In November 2022, before The Marmara Project had fully taken shape, the Marmara Sea was already beginning to enter global climate conversations.
At COP27, Ela represented the youth of Turkey and Egypt alongside her team at Sustainable Ocean Alliance, helping bring attention to the environmental challenges facing the Marmara Sea.

An Early Step onto the Global Stage
As one of the world’s most important climate gatherings, COP27 brought together governments, organizations, researchers, advocates, and youth leaders to discuss the urgent need for climate action.
For our early team, it was an opportunity to connect the Marmara Sea to wider conversations about ocean protection, climate resilience, pollution, and the role of young people in shaping environmental solutions.
